Pombo women make their mark
AFTER the round one washout, Pomborneit’s women’s teams started their seasons playing each other in round two of the Colac District Cricket Association.

Playing at Pomborneit last Sunday, the Gold team featured debutante Shelby Mahony, while for the Maroon’s, Charlotte Henderson, Meg Nolan and Reagan Webb all made their senior debuts.
Batting first, Gold made 2/232 from its 25 overs.
Jada Mahony led the scorers with 33 retired form 22 balls.
Tayla Reynolds retired on 31 from 28 balls, skipper Samantha Coxon made 30 retired from 24 balls while Neave Thompson scored 30 (ret.) from 37 deliveries.
Jess Moulden also contributed well, hitting 23 from 19 balls.
“Jada was super impressive, she hit the ball really well including hitting the only six of the day,” Coxon said.
“Tayla has made the opening spot her own now, and Neave really finished the innings well.”
For Maroon, Janelle Whitehead and Isla Spokes took a wicket each.
In reply, Maroon was dismissed for 53 in the 20th over.

Teenage batter Isla Spokes was the standout, making an unbeaten 26 from 40 balls.
“Isla was super aggressive and hit the ball well,” Maroon co-captain Debra Reynolds said.
“She showed she belonged up the order and we’ll certainly give her plenty of opportunities to keep developing.”
Senior debutante Reagan Webb, in her first year out of the under 13s, impressed with four from 26 deliveries.
“Reagan really dug in, it was a great debut and we’re really excited to have her playing senior cricket,” Reynolds said.
Six Gold bowlers took a single wicket each, with two run-outs also featuring.
“We were really sharp in the field and all the bowlers bowled well,” Coxon said.
“There were lots of positives we took from the game for both teams.”
This week Gold will play Irrewarra at Colac Secondary College oval, while Maroon will face West Warrion on the Warrion turf wicket.
