Pombo women take to field
POMBORNEIT Maroon women were the club’s only senior players to make it on the park last weekend thanks to the weather.
All senior men’s cricket was washed out on Saturday and Tomahawk Creek forfeited its match against the Pomborneit Gold women on Sunday.
Pomborneit Maroon won the toss and batted first at Birregurra, losing three early wickets to be in all sorts of trouble.
Opener Janelle Whitehead worked hard and batted through the innings, finishing on 25 not out, while skipper Julie Baud made 22 from 32 balls as Maroon faced out their 20 overs, finishing on 5/69.
Birregurra had little trouble in reply, making 2/105 to record a comfortable win.
Lily Van Es and Julie Baud each took a wicket.
In junior cricket, the Pomborneit under 17 girls had a thrilling win over Birregurra at MCP Oval last Wednesday night in their final game before the Christmas break.
Batting first, Pomborneit made 7/107 from its 20 overs with Neave Thompson top scoring with 20 from 14 balls, Jada Mahony continuing her good form with 19 and Lucia Clarke finishing the innings off well with a run-a-ball 11 not out.
Birregurra threatened with a strong run chase, a decisive spell of 3/7 from three overs from Isabella Wain was enough to seal the win; the visitors finishing on 6/98.
The under 17 boys had their second loss of the season at Colac’s CMTP Oval on Tuesday night.
Batting first the Bulls lost three early wickets, opener Noah Riches kept the score ticking over though with a well-made 24, while Bradey Fratantaro, Ollie Delaney, Levi Cootesmith and George Sadler all reached the 30-ball retirement mark.
Fratantaro and Delaney returned at the end of the innings, making 21 not out and 11 not out respectively.
Cootesmith made 14 and Sadler 16 from their 30 balls as Pomborneit finished on 7/106.
Colac batted well in reply despite losing some late wickets, finishing on 8/131.
The under 16 boys batted first at Timboon on Sunday, making an impressive 5/206 from their 35 overs.
Openers Ben Whytcross (34) and Gavin Reynolds (31) got the team off to a bright start, while an unbeaten sixth wicket partnership of 88 between Fletcher Tolland (26 not out from 50 balls) and Josh Reynolds (46 not out from 50 balls) finished the innings off well.
For both players it was their highest score at under 16 level.
Heytesbury-Princetown battled hard in reply, batting out their overs to finish on 4/121 - an 85 run win to Pomborneit.
Finn Huggins took two wickets for the Bulls, with one each to Levi Cootesmith and Patrick Spokes.
Pomborneit’s under 14 boys had a thrilling three run win over Colac at CMTP Oval on Friday night.
Josh Reynolds (35 retired), George Sadler (33 retired) and Jonty Raven (16 retired) top scored in Pomborneit’s 4/132.
Colac almost got there but finished on 9/129. Ollie West and George Sadler took two wickets each.
In the under 13 boys’ cricket, Pomborneit Gold had a 108 run win over Camperdown at MCP Oval on Friday night.
Noah Boyd, Sam Tolland, Max Rahles-Rahbula and Ollie Rahles-Rahbula all made 20 retired in Gold’s 1/164.
Alex Huggins and Izaak Wilson took a wicket each in Camperdown’s 2/56.
Pomborneit Maroon will play Boorcan at a yet to be determined date.
In the under 13 girls, Pomborneit Maroon had their game washed out, while Pomborneit Gold had the bye.
The under 13 girls are now on their Christmas break.
