Pool gates opening for swimming season
CORANGAMITE Shire’s outdoor pools are ready to open their gates for the 2024-2025 season.
Camperdown, Cobden and Terang pools will open Saturday, November 23 (tomorrow) at 11am.
Skipton and Timboon will follow on Saturday, November 30, and Lismore will open on Saturday, December 7.
Acting manager facilities and recreation Jane Hinds said Council staff along with the YMCA had been busy preparing the six outdoor swimming pools for the warmer months.
“Our facilities and recreation team have been busy preparing the six outdoor pools in readiness for the season, including cleaning facilities and carrying out general maintenance works while the parks and gardens team has been maintaining gardens and surrounds,” she said.
“This season the pools will offer a range of social activities including barbecues, inflatables, games and triathlons, as well as offering early morning swims and water aerobics.
“The bureau of meteorology has forecast a warmer than average summer and your local pool is the ideal spot to beat the heat and hang out with friends.
“Season passes, which provide unlimited access to all six pools, are available from the Civic Centre in Camperdown or can be bought at the pools.
“EFTPOS facilities are available at each pool.”
Camperdown Pool Committee president Ruth Barber said the Camperdown Pool will be having a special promotion to mark the start of the pool season.
“From November 23 – when season passes go on sale – until December 1, whoever buys a season pass at the Camperdown Pool goes into the draw to win their season pass back,” she said.
“That might be a family pass, or it might be a person who’s bought an adult pass for the year.”
Season tickets cost $191 per family, $98 per adult and $88 per child. Day tickets are $15.90 per family, $5.30 per adult and $4.30 per child.
Mrs Barber said she anticipated the upcoming pool season to improve on the previous year’s season, with a warm summer predicted.
“It’s supposed to be good weather – it’s meant to be 33 degrees, so it’s a nice start to the season and a nice way to cool off after sport,” she said.
“In general, across the pools, the YMCA have seen a decline of patronage and a lot of that has been people being busy and having a lot of things on.
“The pool used to be the place to be in summer, but there’s also so many summer sports and people going on holidays.
“Last year was good for Camperdown, but we hope to build on numbers with better weather kicking off the season.”
Mrs Barber said the Camperdown Pool’s lap swimming challenge was also kicking off for the season.
“There’s a junior female and male competition for different age groups, and a senior age group, and at the end of the season we award the champion lap swimmers,” she said.
“Pop your name on the board, do a few laps and go in the challenge to beat our top lap swimmers over the past few years.”
