Pool opening delayed after issue detected

MORTLAKE swimming pool has remained closed after an issue with water clarity was detected the day before opening.

By wd-news

The pool had been scheduled to open on Saturday, December 7 but Moyne Shire Council and the Mortlake Outdoor Swimming Pool Facebook pages announced on the Friday the decision to delay the opening.

“The Mortlake Outdoor Pool will not be opening tomorrow as planned, due to factors outside of our control,” the statement read.

“We understand that this impacts the community, however, the health and safety of our patrons comes first.

“We will provide updates on our socials as they become available.”

In response to questions from Western District Newspapers, Mortlake Swimming Pool operator YMCA confirmed the opening of the pool had been delayed due to a water clarity issue.

“Unfortunately, the pool’s opening was postponed due to an issue with the water clarity,” YMCA Western Victoria area manager Ryan Holloway said.

“Our teams have worked hard to identify the cause of the problem and we’re focusing on stabilising operations in the coming days to ensure the pool is ready and enjoyable for the community.

“The decision to postpone the opening was communicated via the Mortlake Pool Facebook page.

“We regularly update the community on our social media channels when unforeseen issues arise as well as through the paper when we can.”

Mr Holloway said the YMCA would work closely with Moyne Shire Council to get swimmers in the pool as soon as possible.

“The Y is working closely with the shire to resolve the operational challenge at Mortlake Pool to ensure safe and uninterrupted use once it reopens,” he said.

“The work includes ensuring the pool systems are functioning optimally and addressing the water clarity concerns.

“We’re working as fast as we can to ensure the issue is fully resolved before welcoming the community back.

“We are aiming to reopen as soon as possible and will provide updates as progress is made through the Mortlake Outdoor Swimming Pool Facebook page.”
