Positive Ageing and Inclusion sessions continue
CORANGAMITE Shire Council’s Positive Ageing and Inclusion team continues to visit libraries across the shire.
Coordinator of Positive Ageing and Inclusion Belinda Rowbottom said getting to know residents face-to-face was important to the Positive Ageing and Inclusion team.
“We can learn and understand the needs of our senior residents and vulnerable people,” she said.
“It also assists us in the development of an Active Seniors Program to assist residents to stay healthy, active, and connected to their community.
“We are available to assist senior residents across the shire to access the services they need to support their independence.
“We can provide guidance in understanding the My Aged Care system, including the intake and assessment process and information about local service providers.”
Positive Ageing and Inclusion service navigator Lesa Best said the team also continues to link carers and individuals to support services and social groups and assist with food relief.
“For new residents to the shire or if you’re feeling isolated, we want to be able to support these residents feel part of the community by spreading the word about the many community groups and activities available,” she said.
“The Navigation Support Program is free and confidential.
“Come along to one of the sessions below to learn how the program can help you.
“If you can’t get to any of the sessions, please call us on 5593 7100, email servicenav@corangamite.vic.gov.au or complete a form at corangamite.vic.gov.au/Community/Ageing-and-Inclusion.
“We can come to your home or arrange an appointment at another location that is convenient for you.”
Camperdown resident Mary Brown encouraged other people to head along and meet the team or call them to arrange a meet-up.
“Each time I’ve contacted them they’ve come out and helped,” she said.
“I’ve contacted them to help other people too.
“They’ve helped with advice on aged care packages and carer’s payments for people.
“Belinda and Lesa are absolutely amazing with the jobs they do.”
