Positive year for south west trains
V/LINE trains operating on the Warrnambool line surpassed performance targets throughout December, capping off a strong year which saw the line among the best on the network.

The Warrnambool Line recorded a 98.7 per cent reliability result throughout December, exceeding the 96 per cent monthly reliability target for the 14th consecutive month.
Trains operating on the line were also one of the best performing on the V/Line network for punctuality in December, with 96 per cent of services arriving at their destination on time, exceeding the 92 per cent monthly punctuality target for the 10th consecutive month.
It was also the 10th consecutive month – and was the 11th time overall in 2025 – in which the Warrnambool Line reached both the punctuality and reliability monthly targets.
Success on the line saw multiple months in which trains operating on the Warrnambool line were noted as the best performing across the V/Line network.
This included a 100 per cent reliability result in October and April, while the monthly reliability performance result did not fall below 98 per cent during any month of 2025.
A V/Line spokesperson said the result had been strong, following a trend which has been experienced since the introduction of modern VLocity trains to the line.
“The Warrnambool Line was the best performing line across the V/Line network in December, exceeding the monthly reliability and punctuality targets for the 10th consecutive month,” the spokesperson said.
Passengers can continue to enjoy free weekend travel across Victoria’s public transport network until February 1.
Passengers planning to travel on the Warrnambool Line are encouraged to plan ahead and make a reservation in advance by booking online, at a staffed V/Line or premium Metro station, by calling 1800 800 007 or by visiting a retail ticket agent.
