KOLORA Noorat cemented its spot in the top five with a 17-point win over Russell’s Creek last weekend.

The Power showed its versatility and strength in muddy conditions on Saturday.

After a slow start, the home side put the foot down in the second term, kicking three majors to the Creek’s one and went into the main break with a 10-point lead.

The visitors were restricted to just two points in the third term while the Power added three majors to the board.

A slow fourth quarter gave Russell’s Creek an opportunity to get back into the game but it was all too late – with the home side holding on for a 17-point victory.

“It was a great win, particularly given the tough conditions,” Power coach Nick Bourke said.

“It really was a great overall team effort and I couldn’t be prouder."

“It was certainly tough out there but I think our boys adjusted well and really took control in the second and third quarters."

“Our midfielders worked well, as did the forwards and our backline – against a quality side like Russell’s Creek this was a good performance.”

Bourke said the muddy conditions, particularly in the latter part of the game, often made it difficult to determine exactly who had taken a mark.

“It was certainly tough out there. There were times, when marks were taken, it was honestly difficult to see what jumper the player was wearing."

“I was just glad when the siren went and we could take the points.”

Final scores: Kolora Noorat 8.4.52 defeated Russell’s Creek 4.11.35.

The win sees the Power firmly in fifth spot, three games clear of sixth-placed South Rovers.

Only percentage now separates third to fifth on the league ladder – with Merrivale, Russell’s Creek and Kolora Noorat currently holding those spots.

The Power will face South Rovers this weekend and Bourke is expecting another tough round.

“Mathematically speaking, Rovers can still make the five so they’ll come out firing this Saturday,” Bourke said.

“We’ll need to bring our best and string four solid quarters of good footy if we’re to take the points. Every game is an important one with only three rounds remaining.”

Best for the Power last weekend were Joel Moloney, Lucas Boyd, Benjamin Fraser, Joel Dillon, Scott Judd and Ben Reid.

Goal kickers were Lucas Boyd (4), Nick Marshall, Ben Reid, Nicholas Castersen and Benjamin Fraser.

In the reserves match, the Power went down by 84 points, 1.4.10 to 14.10.94.

Jake Sinnott was the only goal scorer for the home side.

He was named in the best along with Martin Wynd, Bradley Lucas, Nathan Wyss, Mitchell Wyss and Harry Darcy.
