Preferential access for key workers

KEY workers will be given preferential access to eight residential lots as part of the Unlocking Housing Timboon stage one.

At the November Ordinary Meeting of Council, councillors approved the policy which provided a framework around the preferential access sale of lots to key workers and businesses in the Unlocking Housing Timboon (stage one) subdivision.

Shire project engineer Pulkit Pahwa said the policy applies to the sale of Lots at (part) five and 17 Curdies Road, Timboon.

“The intent of the policy is to ensure that sale to key workers and businesses covers the broad range of industries that make up the employment mix in Corangamite Shire, providing a preferential, market-based solution for lot purchase and construction of a dwelling,” he said.

Under the policy a qualifying purchaser was defined as a key worker who earns a gross annual income of $130,485 or less, if purchasing the lot in conjunction with another person, a joint gross annual income of $208,775 or less per annum.

Alternatively, the purchaser can be the owner of a business operating within the municipal boundaries of Corangamite Shire Council.

Mr Pahwa said there had been minimal growth in the housing stock in the Corangamite Shire region.

“For the implementation of this policy, a preferential access scheme will be provided to the key workers and businesses who employ key workers, where lots will be marketed to the qualifying purchasers for a period of 45 days,” he said.

“After this time, any unsold lots will be made available to the general public via sale.”
