SIMPSON’S reserve footballers are 2023 premiers.
In what was a nail-biting grand final at Colac’s Central Reserve last Saturday, the Tigers defeated Lorne by just three-points to bring home the flag.
The opening quarter was a relatively slow one from both sides, with just two points separating them heading into the second.
By the main break the scoreboard read one point in favour of Lorne, 2.3 to 2.2.
A tight tussle continued in the third quarter, with both sides struggling to make any huge impact on the scoreboard, adding a goal a piece.
The Tigers went into the final term just one point ahead of Lorne and kicked a further one goal two behinds to Lorne’s one goal straight.
Final scores were Simpson 4.7.31 to Lorne 4.4.28.
Best for the Tigers in a great team effort were Luke Kensit, Reagan Jones, Sam Rix, Andrew Lowe, Jaryd Duynhoven and David Weel.
Jono Jennings booted two goals for the side, while Noah Ackerley and Brodie Neale each contributed a goal.
