The Bombers got off to a great start with a 13 goal to six first quarter and maintained that margin all day in their 35-27 win.

The win was Cobden’s eighth premiership at division one level, and the club’s first since 2023.

“The win was a great reward, we had an amazing season,” Cobden goal attack Jess Bouchier said.

“We definitely went in fired up and wanted to get off to a good start.”

Bouchier said the earlier contests between the two teams this season meant the Bombers knew they were in for a tough game.

“The first game (in Port Fairy in round four) was a draw and we beat them at Cobden by eight goals in round 14, so we knew it would be a challenge.”

The remaining three quarters saw a tight contest, Cobden outscoring Port Fairy 22-21 in sometimes tough conditions.

“The wind was a bit challenging at times but I thought we dealt with the conditions well.

“They matched up well on us and they really did come out firing in the third quarter where they got to within five goals.”

Bouchier won the best on court medal, shooting a match high 27 goals.

Goal shooter Hannah Anderson was paired in the goal circle this season alongside Bouchier and scored eight goals in the decider.

“Hannah and I played our first year together, and did a lot of work together behind the scenes.

“We came together well as a combination and it was very enjoyable working with her.”

Grace Taylor and Macey Hicks were also in the Bombers best in the win.

“Grace and Macey have both had amazing seasons, Macey has been incredible in her first year with Cobden.”

Bouchier also had praise for Bombers coaches, sisters Jaymie and Emily Finch.

“Jaymie and Emily have played a huge role in developing the team,” Bouchier said.

“They’re really smart coaches who have made the atmosphere fantastic to be involved in.”

Bouchier believes Cobden has a strong group who can continue to challenge going forward.

“Hopefully everyone sticks around, it’s a great group with lots to look forward to.”
