Premiership eludes Bulls again
COBDEN has taken out the 2024/25 South West Cricket division one premiership, recording a three-wicket win over Pomborneit in a match full of ebbs and flows at SA Wright Oval last Saturday.

Pomborneit skipper Matt Bignell won the toss and elected to bat, with the Bulls openers immediately finding scoring difficult.
Bignell was run out for two after a mix up with Dave Murphy.
Grant Place and Murphy then took the score to 20 before Place was bowled by Simon Murfett for 12, the Bulls then slumping to 4/31 after Sam Darcy and Josh Place were dismissed in quick succession.
Murphy dug in, with Lahiru Fernando taking the score to 65 before off-spinner Matt Harkin got through Murphy's defences, the opener bowled for 18 from 54 balls.
Tharaka Sendanayake and Fernando were then dismissed with the score on 66, Fernando looking by far the most comfortable of the Pomborneit batsmen in making 22 from 39 balls.
Tim Place, with 17 from 52 balls, and Tom Darcy, with 26 from 67 balls, did their best to get the team to a competitive score.
The Bulls were all out for 125 in the 47th over, with Angus Uwland the best of the Cobden bowlers with 3/23 from 10 overs.
After conceding nine runs in his first over, Brad Hillman made the initial breakthrough in his third over - Jonty Robertson caught at mid-off for one.
Three balls later Hillman got through the defence of Matt Kemp and in the next over Clinton Place had Matt Boyle caught at point by Sam Darcy.
This left Cobden at 3/15.
Lahiru Fernado’s introduction into the attack saw the leg-spinner get the wickets of Campbell Walsh and Parker Walsh, and when Fernando trapped Knights’ skipper Johno Benallack in front for eight from 39 balls, the Bulls were right on top with Cobden at 6/33.
With the wicket still proving hard to score on, Angus Uwland and Edmund Walsh started to dig in.
A missed caught and bowled from Uwland with the score on 52 would prove costly as the seventh wicket partnership netted 69 with batting seemingly getting easier before Walsh was bowled by Fernado for 22 from 60 balls.
Uwland was joined by Matt Harkin, with the pair navigating Cobden to victory, passing Pomborneit’s score in the 42nd over.
Fernando was the pick of the Bulls’ bowlers with 4/13 from eight overs, while Uwland was named Player of the Match after finishing unbeaten on 58 from 69 balls.
Cobden made it back to back flags with wins over Pomborneit two years in a row.
