Premiership for young Bulls
POMBORNEIT has broken through to win the premiership in the Colac District Cricket Association’s under 13 girls competition last Sunday.

A part of the inaugural CDCA competition in this age group in the 2019/20 season, this was Pomborneit’s first appearance in a grand final for this age group after narrow semi-final losses in the previous two seasons.
Winning the toss, Pomborneit sent Tomahawk Creek into bat first at the Colac Secondary College Oval.
“They started well early but we were then able to peg them back,” Pomborneit coach Dave Murphy said.
“We bowled a good full length; all the bowlers did well.”
Left armer Zoe Unwin led the way with 2/9 from three overs, with Scarlett Whitehead also taking a wicket as Tomahawk Creek finished on 4/99 from its 20 overs.

In reply, openers Emily Reynolds and Unwin made 12 and seven respectively, before Matilda Kerr made her highest score of the season with 13.
“Zoe and Emily got us off to a great start, then for Matilda to bat like she did was really pleasing.
“Matilda is a first year player and has improved enormously since the start of the season.”
Scarlett Saarikallio batted well for her 12 runs, before final wicket pair Skarlette Wakeling and Pippa Murphy got the team over the line with a 20 run partnership -Wakeling scoring 8 and Murphy 13.

The match came down to the final ball with scores level, with all three results on the table as teams are awarded four runs for taking a wicket in the under 13 girls format.
Murphy hit the final ball, a no-ball, behind point to run a single and get the win, finishing on 4/101.
“Skarlette and Pippa did a great job at the end, they batted with cool heads and held their nerve.”
Murphy has been thrilled with the development his team has made over several years.
“I’ve coached several in this group for four years now, when they started back then they were just as interested in doing cartwheels as they were in playing cricket.
“To see them transition into taking their cricket quite seriously now has been fantastic.”
