Premiership glory for Bombers trio
COBDEN trio Sam Giblett, Christian Koroneos and Josh Hickey tasted premiership success at senior level for the first time on Saturday.

COBDEN trio Sam Giblett, Christian Koroneos and Josh Hickey tasted premiership success at senior level for the first time on Saturday.
Giblett and Koroneos featured in Port Douglas’ record breaking fifth consecutive senior AFL Cairns grand final victory, while Hickey was a part of the reserves’ win.
Giblett kicked two goals while Koroneos was solid in defence in the Crocs 15.12 (102) to 11.6 (72) triumph over Cairns Saints.
Hickey kicked a goal and was among the best players in the reserves’ big 22.11 (143) to 2.4 (16) win over South Cairns.
Giblett said it was unreal to win his first senior premiership.
“I’ve never felt anything like it before – it was a really good feeling to win,” he said.
“Having played a fair bit of footy with Christian, it was good to have him out there and he played well too, so it mean a fair bit.
“I was a little nervous leading into it but I knew I just had to do my part and do what a forward pocket does – I’m happy with what I did and I was happy I contributed to the win.
“Hopefully we can bring the celebrations home with us.”
Giblett said the trio were all “stoked” to win premierships in their football odyssey.
He said the fact they were also part of history was something he was still coming to grips with.
“I don’t know how to describe it, it’s hard to say – it just means our name will be on the wall on the clubrooms forever now,” Giblett said.
“It’s just good to be a part of it.”
