Preps celebrate 100 days
COBDEN Primary School’s Foundation students recently celebrated a big milestone, clocking in 100 days of school together since the start of the year.

In the classroom of teachers Kerryn Guthrie and Bec Moloney, the nine students have been settling in and embracing new learning.
Mrs Moloney said it was thanks to the transition to school program run with Cobden and District Kindergarten which has helped the students settle in to school so well.
“With the program, kinder students have multiple visits to Cobden Primary School in the year prior to starting Prep where they form positive relationships with students and staff,” she said.
“By the time they start school they are familiar with the classroom, staff and school expectations.
“They come ready to learn with an advanced sense of independence and confidence.
“Cobden Primary School Foundation students have worked extremely hard this year to build their skills in all areas of their learning.
“It has been fantastic to see how much they’ve grown in such a short amount of time.”
Some of the things they’ve learned include all sounds and letters of the alphabet, reading a variety of books, writing letters and words and writing sentences in a variety of writing genres.
They’ve also developed increased independence, overall improved reading and writing as well as counting and maths skills.
“They’ve enjoyed a variety of activities,” Mrs Moloney said.
“There’s been the weekly buddies program, PE, art, Indonesian, the library, science, the Big Freeze, Do it for Dolly Day, the cross country, Australia’s Biggest Morning Tea, the Warrnambool excursion to the library, Lighthouse Theatre and war memorial and the National Simultaneous Story time.
“The students are looking forward to the school concert, the end of year celebrations, book week, footy colours day and R U OK day.”
On their 100th day, the preps dressed up as 100-year-olds, participated in a race to 100 maths game, built something out of 100 blocks of Lego and made 100-day crowns, all activities centred around the theme of 100.
“The students also had a dance party, made fairy bread, created self-portraits, made special photo frames in art with Mrs Mckinnon and had a party lunch,” Mrs Moloney said.
