Princetown named among measles exposure sites
THE Victorian Government has announced Princetown is among recent measles public exposure sites.
The Department of Health has listed the Princetown Recreation Reserve on Friday, January 23 between 7am to 8.30pm and Saturday, January 24 between 7am to 10.30pm as having been exposure sites when recent measles cases have been infectious while visiting.
Anyone who has attended a listed exposure site during the specified dates and times may have been exposed to measles and are advised to monitor for symptoms of measles for up to 18 days after their visit.
Symptoms usually start with fever, cough, runny nose, red or sore eyes or feeling generally unwell.
This is usually followed by a rash which often starts on the face before spreading down the body.
Anyone developing symptoms was advised to seek medical care and testing.
Anyone experiencing symptoms was advised to contact their health service beforehand to inform staff the visitor may have been exposed to measles, and wear a face mask.
Anyone who has not received two doses of the measles-mumps-rubella vaccine (MMR vaccine) or are unsure was advised to contact their GP as preventive treatment may be recommended.
This works best soon after exposure, usually within 72 hours (with MMR vaccine) or up to six days with immunoglobulin for at-risk groups such as young infants, pregnant women and immunocompromised people.
