READY Set Go early learning centre has received state government recognition for its commitment to creating a healthier workplace.

The Mortlake-based centre recently completed three benchmarks under the state government-led Achievement Program.

The initiative is part of a state-wide effort to create healthier workplaces and workforces with an emphasis on six benchmarks of mental health, oral health and healthy eating, safe environments, sun protection and reduction in smoking, alcohol and other drugs.

Ready Set Go director Georgie Buck said the centre had recently met the benchmarks required to achieve recognition for healthy eating and oral health, sun protection and mental health and well-being.

“Our main one was healthy eating, using the traffic light system (green traffic light foods are good to eat, amber traffic light foods should be consumed in moderation and red traffic light foods should be avoided,” she said.

“These days we are becoming more aware of the issues people have with mental health so we want to do our best.

“With sun protection we’re really big in engaging with the SunSmart program.”

Ms Buck said meeting the benchmarks required showing the centre had implemented policies and practices to ensure healthy outcomes.

“We had to outline how we would bring these changes in to the workplace and our work community,” she said.

“We worked with our parents to review the policies and suggest any changes.

“We feel really good about our changes, but there is still a few more to go.”
