Projects earn dollars under Tiny Towns fund
THREE community projects in Corangamite Shire are a step closer to being delivered, following a recent funding announcement from the Victorian Government.
The successful projects in round two of the State Government’s Tiny Towns Fund are Tandarook Park Restoration Stage Three ($40,000), Lismore Footbridge Replacement ($50,000) and Skipton Jubilee Park Toilet Upgrade ($50,000).
Mayor Kate Makin welcomed the funding and said council was thrilled to see all three applications approved.
“This funding will have a transformative impact on our communities in Lismore, Cobden and Skipton,” she said.
“It will allow us to significantly enhance local facilities and improve the liveability of these towns.
“The footbridge is highly valued by the community, and it will be fantastic to see progress being made on the ground.”
The Tandarook Park project will deliver upgraded lighting, new park furniture, and new signage.
In Lismore, the long-awaited replacement of the footbridge, closed for more than two years, will restore a key link in the Lismore Discovery Trail.
The upgrade to the public toilets at Skipton Jubilee Park will modernise tired amenities and create a more welcoming space for both residents and visitors.
Cr Makin also congratulated community groups which had secured funding through the Tiny Towns program.
The Camperdown-Timboon Rail Trail committee received $46,500 to resurface between Timboon and the Trestle Bridge.
The Darlington Mechanics Institute and Recreation Reserve committee received $40,000 to refloor the hall.
The South Purrumbete Recreation Reserve Committee received $50,000 to restore the old football rooms to be vibrant community spaces.
“It’s great to see these passionate volunteer groups being proactive,” Cr Makin said.
“They put in the effort to apply for funding and can now deliver benefits for everyone in their communities.”
