A SMALL group of residents from across the south west staged protests at two Beach Energy information sessions last week.
Extinction Rebellion South West member Kate Leslie, from Timboon, attended both protests at Port Campbell and Peterborough.
She said the group was a “brand new chapter” of the world wide Extinction Rebellion movement.
“It was a fairly quiet event. People stopped and wanted to sign the climate emergency petition,” Ms Leslie said.
“Extinction Rebellion is a worldwide movement; it’s built on social science.
“It’s the best possible chance for stopping climate change.”
She said the group was pushing for zero net carbon emissions in the near future.
“The Government must act,” Ms Leslie said.
“I just think that we need to stop drilling for gas and oil and draw down our carbon emissions.”
