STUDENTS at Camperdown College’s Brooke St campus ran around in bright shades of purple as the school marked National Purple Day last Friday.

The purple dress code was accompanied by purple ribbons made by the school’s Junior School Council (JSC), sold to students for 50 cents.

National Purple Day is a day dedicated to reducing stigma around epilepsy through education and awareness.

The ribbon sales, as well as the gold-coin donations made by students to wear purple, raise a total of $291.90.

The money raised by Camperdown College will go towards Epilepsy Action Australia.

JSC coordinator Darcie Seers said Camperdown College has a number of students living with epilepsy, which led to the school raising awareness and funds for the foundation.

“We’ve had our JSC representatives making our purple badges for weeks, excited to come in during their own time to come in and make the badges and sell them,” she said.

“The kids were super excited to be able to wear their purple and to raise awareness for epilepsy.

“This year, we got a new student at the school, Goldie, who suffers from a very extreme case of epilepsy.

“With Goldie coming to the school, we thought it was a perfect to really push the awareness around epilepsy and really celebrate it as a school.”
