Congratulations: Owners of Port Campbell Shopping Peter ‘Punk’ Fields and Prue Cashmore have won the Friendly Grocer’s Retailer of the Year award for the second year in a row.

Owners of Port Campbell Shopping as well as partners Peter ‘Punk’ Fields and Prue Cashmore also won the award in 2019 at the inaugural ceremony.

Mr Fields said he was elated when they announced their store as the winner.

“Because we won last year, and with all these new stores coming on board, we weren’t expecting to win,” he said.

“There’s been 17 new stores under the Friendly Grocer banner in Victoria this year.

“It means a lot to us because with all the new stores it’s a pat on the back that we’re doing the right thing.

“We weren’t expecting to win so it was a surprise.

“For our small community it was a big honour.”

The Friendly Grocer have awards for each state and the Retailer of the Year recognises a store setting an example.

“The Friendly Grocer banner makes us feel like we’re family and it was a huge honour,” Mr Fields said.

“We put in ten new dairy shelves which enabled us to increase our range.

“It’s something we’re working on all the time – trying to have that good product.

“We try to have local brands as well.

“The display of the store is important too, so it’s always looking nice and presented.”

Mr Fields thanked the local community of Port Campbell for supporting them throughout the years.

“We appreciate all the local businesses and locals who support us and we actually have served many people from all around the world,” he said.

“Port Campbell is an amazing place to work and live.

“There’s people from all over the world – you wouldn’t expect it from a small township but there is.

“We also couldn’t have achieved this without the help of our friendly staff.”
