MEMBERS of the Purvis Eureka Car Club of Australia enjoyed popular tourist spots around the district over three days.

The club’s annual Eureka Nationals was held in Camperdown over Friday to Sunday, with members travelling from across the country to experience what the south west has to offer.

Saturday saw the Eurekas hitting the road and enjoying some of the local delights including Dairylicious Fudge Farm, Simpson for a historical talk, GORGE Chocolates, 12 Apostles, Port Campbell lunch, Peterborough, Timboon Fine Ice Cream before returning to Camperdown.

Club members enjoyed an evening dinner held at the Kilara Centre which also saw certificates and awards handed out.

Locals were given the chance to take a look at the iconic cars on Sunday with the cars on show adjacent to the monthly Camperdown Rotary Club market near the Killara Centre.

Local Purvis Eureka owners Neil and Lynda Podger organised the event, and also took out the people’s choice voting competition on Sunday.

Club president Paul Patton thanked the couple for organising the meet which was described as a success.

“It was fantastic; it was absolutely fantastic,” he said.

“It was extremely well organised by Neil and Lynda.

“It was a very nice area and people were very welcoming and friendly.”

Mr Patton said 44 members enjoyed the tri, which saw 11 Purvis Eurekas on the road capturing attention where ever they travelled.

“Everywhere we stopped we lined up and took photos,” he said.

“In Camperdown we had them all lined up and we had a lot of interest.

“It was a really good weekend.”

The Purvis Eureka sports car, produced by Purvis Cars at Dandenong in Victoria, rolled off the production line between 19 74 and 1991.

The Eureka was based on the British Nova kit car design of 1971 and was first unveiled in Australia at the Melbourne International Motor Show on March 8, 1974 by Allan Purvis.

The 2024 annual Eureka Nationals, which will be the 50th anniversary since the unique cars started being made, is expected to be held in Ballarat.
