Railway opens for convention
COBDEN Miniature Railway will have an influx of steam trains, petrol driven trains and environmentally friendly battery trains over the Easter weekend.

South Western Model Engineers Inc., whose volunteer members run the Cobden Miniature Railway, will be hosting about 100 visitors from all over Australia and New Zealand from Thursday, April 2 until Tuesday April 7.
“The general public will be able to ride a variety of different trains including steam on Sunday, April 5 from 12noon,” South Western Model Engineers secretary Sharron Howard said.
“On the other days the public is welcome to come into the railway for a look.
“This will be the fifth time that Cobden has hosted the Australian Association of Live Steamers annual convention.
“Previous conventions were held in 1997, 2001, 2008 and 2016.
“Some of our volunteer members have been at all conventions and are excited about this one.”

Mrs Howard said the Sunday would be busy with the mini golf, Cobden Historical Society and Pioneer Park also open for the day.
“Ticket prices for Sunday, April 5 are our normal pricing of only $3 per person per ride, and the ticket box will be open from 11am so you can get your tickets before the rush,” she said.
“A canteen will be operating selling hot and cold drinks, snacks and yummy scones with jam and cream.
“Cobden Scouts will be cooking a sausage sizzle selling sausages in bread for $3.50 each.
“Cobden Mini Golf will also be open with an Easter egg hunt starting at 11am.
“Our refurbished walkover bridge will also be open to all visitors for the first time.”
