RAIN forced cricket to be abandoned at the Cobden Recreation Reserve last weekend.

Saturday’s wet conditions saw the Knights unable to continue their round six clash with visitors, Pomborneit on Saturday.

According to captain Simon Murfett, the Knights were “doing well” in the field to have Pombo at 5/228 in the 45th over.

“I thought it was certainly going to be an interesting game because they were batting well but we were performing well in the field,” Murfett said.

“I was abit disappointing with my bowling figures, and our bowlers have abit to work on at the moment but overall I was happy with how we were travelling on Saturday.

“We got a few in the right areas but just weren’t consistent enough.”

After the first rain delay, the covers were taken off and players were hoping to resume the match but it wasn’t to be.

“After lunch we took the covers off but while we were waiting for the ground to dry a little it started spitting again so the covers went back on and then we had a heavy downpour – it was all over then.”

The best of the bowlers for the Knights were Parker Walsh 2/17 off six overs and Matthew Harkin 2/54 off 10.

This weekend will see the start of the 20/20 competition.

Round one on Saturday will see Cobden face Boorcan at Cobden from 10am before taking on visitors Woorndoo from 2pm.

“The 20/20 format is certainly exciting and it allows our batters to get out and have a real crack,” Murfett said.

“But you really need to back yourself in and have confidence at the crease.

The 20/20 format will run for the next two weekends before we return to the 50 over format for the final round before Christmas on December 16.”
