Rainfall totals remain low

FARMERS across the region have welcomed recent rain, but the figures continue to fall below the long-term average over Terang and Mortlake.

Throughout October just 62.4mm of rain was recorded to have fallen over Terang, well below the long-term average of 71.2mm over the same period.

The highest daily rainfall occurred on October 2, when 11.2mm of rain hit the ground.

While the result was below the long-term average, it was a welcome increase from the previous year when just 37.8mm of rain fell in October 2024.

The result brings the total rainfall experienced over Terang, to date, to 479.9mm in 2025.

Meanwhile in Mortlake, the October tally was more consistent with the long-term average.

A total of 50.6mm of rain filled the gauge at Mortlake Racecourse, only slightly below the long-term average of 55.3mm.

The highest daily rainfall occurred on October 26 when 12.4mm hit the ground.

The result was an increase from the 37.8mm of rain recorded to have hit the ground in October 2024.

The result brings the rainfall tally over Mortlake so far in 2025 to 459.6mm.
