Rebuild underway for poor roads
LONG-AWAITED upgrades have brought a safety boost to commuters travelling between Terang and Noorat.

The Victorian Government began major works on a 3.5-kilometre section of Terang-Mortlake Road, which is set to be completed next month.
The upgrades began at a particularly dangerous stretch near Le Couteur Road, which was prone to potholes emerging and water retention.
As part of the upgrade works, Terang-Mortlake Road is being complete rebuilt from the ground up to strengthen the surface and ensuring its longevity for the years to come.
The works continued from last week on the opposite side of Noorat, with crews beginning works to rebuild a 2.3-kilometre section of Mackinnons Bridge-Noorat Road.
Targeting a section of road between the Princes Highway and Blacks Drive, the rehabilitation works will be completed by the end of April, weather permitting.
During these works, single lane closures will be in place, along with reduced speed limits, and traffic management teams will help drivers travel safely through the site.
Minister for Roads and Road Safety Melissa Horne said the upgrades were part of the Allan Labor Government’s biggest single-year investment in road maintenance in the state’s history, with includes a $964 million road maintenance blitz.
“Our crews are working tirelessly to rebuild, repair and resurface roads right across the state as part of our $964 million investment in road maintenance,” she said.
“Through this record investment, we’re ensuring that roads in the south west, like Mackinnons Bridge and Terang-Mortlake roads, are stronger, smoother, and built to last.”
Between now and June 2025, crews across the state are set to complete thousands of individual projects to rebuild, repair, and resurface roads Victorian drivers rely on right across the state – with around 70 per cent of funding going towards regional roads.
Warmer conditions are more suitable for major roadworks, and drivers can expect to see workers deployed across the state, delivering these important road works.
Member for Western Victoria Jacinta Ermacora said the upgrades around Noorat would heighten safety for drivers.
“Crews are out right now rebuilding Mackinnons Bridge-Noorat Road to ensure this road remains durable and dependable for our drivers who rely on it each and every day,” she said.
