Rehabilitation works underway
FOUR major road rehabilitation and/or upgrade works have been completed across Corangamite Shire since the main construction season started in November, with another expected to be finished over the coming days.
Mayor Kate Makin said the 2024-2025 capital works program includes 14 road rehabilitations and/or upgrades totalling 10 kilometres worth $4 million, and resealing works on sections of 63 roads totalling 68 kilometres worth another $2 million.
“Our Works and Services team has put in an amazing effort on a range of works, including on weekends,” she said.
“Rehabilitation has been completed on Hinkley’s Road, Crawfords Road and Vite Vite Road as well as widening works on a bend in Naroghid Road.
“Rehab works in Wiridgil Road are expected to be finished in the next week or so, depending on conditions.
“Major projects that have started in the new year include rehabilitation work on Hospital Road in Timboon and widening and sealing of Dow Street in Terang.
“Hospital Road is closed for construction from Wark Street to Leahy’s Lane. We expect the project will be finished by the end of the month, depending on weather and any circumstances beyond councils’ control.”
Works on Dow Street in Terang will include the gravel section of the road adjacent to Terang College and Hampden Specialist School being sealed for the first time, the addition of new parking and stormwater drainage.
“A gravel section of Dow Street will be sealed and a 46-metre mountable concrete spoon drain, stormwater drainage and sealed on-street carpark will be constructed near the school,” Cr Makin said.
“The Dow Street project is funded by the Federal Government’s Local Roads and Community Infrastructure program.
“Both of those projects are expected to be finished by early next month.
“We thank our residents for their patience while these improvement works are done.
“Please observe signs and traffic management and drive to the conditions.”
The construction season also includes 250 metres and 120 metres of replacement kerb and channel on High Street in Terang and McNicol Street in Camperdown, respectively.
