COBDEN defender Remeny McCann celebrated her 150th Open game with victory over the Magpies last weekend.

The talented Bomber and her team-mates enjoyed a hard fought 53-42 goal victory over arch rivals Camperdown on Saturday.

Open coach Sophie Hinkley praised McCann for her performance on the weekend and congratulated her on her 150-game milestone.

“Rem is a naturally gifted defender, she can get her hands on the ball no matter where she is on court and she would be the strongest ball winner for our side,” Hinkley said.

“She started at keeper on the weekend before moving to goal defence and then wing defence.

“She always reads the ball well and gets lots of turnovers for us which is a vital part of our game. We’re very lucky to have her in our Open side.”

Finishing with a 53-42 goal victory, Hinkley said she was pleased to take the four points given how tight it is at the top of the ladder.

“We’re holding on to second spot by percentage so every game from here on in will be a big one for us,” Hinkley said.

“The court was quite wet on Saturday and we made lots of small errors that we need to tidy up.

“The conditions did throw us abit but it was good to experience that in the lead up to finals, which could also be played in similar conditions.”

Best for the Bombers, alongside McCann, were Natalie McNamara and Alicia Blain.

The Bombers enjoyed a clean sweep of the courts on Saturday, winning all senior and junior matches.

In the division one game, the Bombers defeated Camperdown 55-18 with Hannah Justin, Meagan Forth and Maddison Clifford named best on court.

Division two won 38-29; best on court – Rose Delaney, Hannah Anderson and Alice Dawson.

Division three defeated the Magpies 26-25 with Jasmine Hickey and Courtney Gatens named best.

In the junior games, the 17 and unders won 57-36 (best players Jessica Bouchier, Grace Taylor and Jessica Walsh) while the 17 and reserves won 39-18 (Charlotte Bennett named best on court).

The 15 and unders defeated Camperdown 22-15 (best players Claire Blain and Matilda Darcy) while the 13 and under side won 34-30 with Lila Bennett named best for the Bombers.

Cobden will head to Port Fairy this weekend to take on the bottom-placed Seagulls who are yet to get a win on the board in Open division.
