COBDEN netballer Remeny McCann has been named Corangamite Sportsman’s Club’s Senior Sports Star of the Year.
Remeny was presented with the award in front of more than 60 guests at the club’s annual presentation evening, held at Thompson’s Hotel in Cobden last week.
While her open netball side has made the last three Hampden grand finals but is yet to take home a premiership cup, Remeny was rewarded for her efforts with the 2022 Hampden League Open best and fairest award.
The senior team award went to Camperdown Bowls Club for its ongoing success on the green.
Capably led by skip Ron Cameron, the team also comprises Matthew Brewer, Barry Atchison and Kelvin Rundle.
The four won the West Coast Region Fours event, defeating Portland in the grand final 16-14.
In the junior awards, talented equestrian Stella Horspole was named the Junior Sports Star of the Year.
The award caps off a successful year in the saddle for the teen, who won the under 18 Smartest on Parade, the child’s Galloway under 15 hands and overall Champion Child’s Galloway at the Royal Adelaide Show.
Stella also performed exceptionally well at this year’s Royal Melbourne, competing in five classes.
In the junior team category, Camperdown College’s bowls team was announced the winner.
The team, comprising Isaac Winsall, Tyler Newcombe, Kona Kerr and Jacob Brown, took out this year’s School Sport Victoria Secondary Senior Bowls state championship.
