MELBOURNE Renegades stars Zak Evans and Rhiann O’Donnell made a special visit to Terang College.

The Big Bash League cricketers were in town last Wednesday as part of the club’s 2022 Regional Roadshow.

Students had the opportunity to learn more about the players through question and answer sessions, practiced their cricket skills and each received a Melbourne Renegades soft cricket ball and autographs.

The experience for Rhiann O’Donnell felt like home, as she knows all too well the feeling of being a student in regional Victoria with a keen interest in cricket.

“Getting to meet students throughout Western Victoria has been really good,” she said.

“With COVID-19 restrictions over the last few years we haven’t really had the chance to get out and about, especially in to the regional communities.

“I think being a country kid myself (Mildura), it’s always really good to get out and give back to people who do travel and know what it’s like to travel.

“It’s been a really enjoyable experience.”

Mr Evans said reconnecting with the community after the Regional Roadshow was held digitally in 2021 was a positive experience.

“It’s been nice to get back out meeting people, especially in regional communities,” he said.

“It’s great to get the opportunity to travel and meet people.

“I’m a big city boy, so it’s nice to meet some country kids who might be a bit more appreciative of the effort we put in with how far we’ve travelled tosee them.

“It’s been nice to get around people as much as possible.”

Mr Evans praised the talents of some of south west Victoria’s youngest cricketers.

“We had a little game with a few of the boys and girls,” he said.

“There have been some impressive skills, with a few big catches around.”

The Regional Roadshow has seen Melbourne Renegades players and staff travel to more than 40 schools in 19 locations across a three-day period.

“There were a few groups going through Western Victoria so it’s been good,” Ms O’Donnell said.

“We’ve visited eight schools in the south west before heading back to Melbourne.”
