Ms Gorman shared her entrepreneurial expertise over breakfast at Excuse Me Katie’s in Camperdown.

The event was presented by Corangamite Shire Council’s economy and prosperity team, with deputy mayor Laurie Hickey opening proceedings.

He said Ms Gorman’s presentation provided an insight into the business world for attendees.

“Lisa provided everyone with a very warm presentation from a person who has been very successful in business,” Cr Hickey said.

“The colour she’s demonstrated on her designs and fashion is small compared to the colour of the women itself.

“She gave everybody an insight into her business and what her drivers were - and they weren’t always financial. She stressed, though, that you do need business acumen from yourself or those who are supporting you in your venture.

“While she’s a creative person, she emphasised that everyone needs to have a strong grasp of the financial side of things when they are running a big business, as she has done.”

Cr Hickey praised Ms Gorman’s work through the Mangkaja project with Indigenous artists from Fitzroy Crossing, and said the recent exhibition at Warrnambool Art Gallery of her collaborations with the late Mirka Mora was an “amazing display of talent”.

Shire manager economy and prosperity Katy McMahon said Ms Gorman’s presentation was well received by attendees.

“For such a high achiever she was really down to earth with a straightforward yet inspirational story to tell,” she said.

“Don’t keep looking for the end result, make sure your product is strong and enjoy the journey.

“She also stressed the point that collaboration is the key to success.

“Find the right partners and together you can achieve more that any of you would alone.”

Ms McMahon said council planned to organise more business networking events in the future under its Business Corangamite banner.

“To stay informed on what’s coming up, follow us on Facebook, and sign up for our electronic newsletter by emailing ecodev@corangamite.vic.gov.au,” she said.
