RITCHIES IGA Camperdown staff received a pleasant surprise this week, with each team member named 2021 Team Member of the Year.

The award is traditionally given to a single employee, selected from across the stores operating under the Ritchies banner.

Under the 2021 award, however, all employees in Ritchies stores across Victoria were given the nod for their dedicated efforts throughout the economic disruption and COVID-19 pandemic of the last year.

Ritchies IGA Camperdown store manager Ebony Marshall said more than 5500 employees received a certificate and a gift card in recognition of their accomplishments.

“The decision was made everyone deserved to be champion of the year, not just one team member,” she said.

“Every single staff member, from full-time to casual or part-time, was recognised.

“It’s a great gesture which has been well appreciated.

“When I was calling the kids up to my office to give them their certificate and gift card they were over the moon.”

Ms Marshall said staff at the Camperdown store had more than earned their recognition, contributing to an excellent environment built from a foundation of team work.

“Everyone is great to be around,” she said.

“Obviously 2021 was a tough year but I think it all just comes down to team work.

“Everyone was willing to help when they could.

“If we had someone away or on holidays, other people stepped up to make sure the business was still running.”

Ms Marshall congratulated her team and thanked Ritchies for the thoughtfulness of recognising the staff members who had kept the doors open.

“We have worked so hard, especially throughout the COVID-19 pandemic,” she said.

“Thank you to the whole Camperdown team for all stepping up and working together.

“And thank you to the Ritchies brand for being so generous.

“It’s great to work for a company which is willing to recognise all the hard work and effort which staff has put in.”
