Road blitz underway state-wide
LONG-awaited road works across the state are now underway as part of the state government’s $976 million road blitz.
The Victorian Budget 2025/26 will invest $976 million in a Better Roads Blitz to fix potholes and upgrade road surfaces across Victoria.
Last year the Labor Government delivered Victoria’s biggest single-year investment in road maintenance ever.
Premier Jacinta Allan said this year’s Budget goes further, with an even bigger single-year investment in road maintenance.
“We’re focused on what matters most – getting regional families home safer and sooner with our Better Roads Blitz,” she said.
Road maintenance funding will deliver the rebuild, repair and resurfacing of arterial roads right across the state including pothole repair, the maintenance of vital transport infrastructure such as bridges and traffic lights so they are in good condition.
Emergency road works in response to callouts from the community will also be rolled out in addition to the mowing, slashing and spraying of grass and weeds along roadsides, and the repair or replacement of thousands of signs.
Minister for Roads and Road Safety Melissa Horne said the upgrades would support Victorians with safer travel.
“Victoria’s road network connects Victorians to family, school and jobs, and moves millions of tonnes of goods and supplies around the state,” she said.
“We delivered record roads funding last year and this Budget will deliver even more – making our roads more resilient.”
As part of last year’s record investment into fixing roads, more than 70 per cent of funding was directed to regional Victoria – delivering important maintenance work in every corner of the state.
Thanks to this investment, more than 183,669 on-road jobs were completed, including major rehabilitation projects, resurfacing projects and pothole repairs.
Some 11,000 signs were also repaired, and 13,000 signs replaced.
