Road trip for bowlers

COBDEN Bowling Club’s weekend pennant teams all had road trips last weekend, with teams sent to Winchelsea, Lorne and Apollo Bay.


Division two put up a good showing at Apollo Bay defeating the home team 120-68 and winning three rinks against the cellar dwellers.

Cobden has maintained third position on the ladder, just behind Lorne on percentage who they will face this weekend.

All the ladies, S. Kent, M. Hall, A. Rowarth and J. Dodds managed to scrape in over all the men Micheal Hickey, Colin Hammond, Sam Thowe and Bazil Hammond 22-20.

J. Bertrand, A. Crouch, P. Telford and H. Featherston lost 13-30 to Noah Mungean, Kathryn Robertson, Ash Sinnott and Lachie Taylor.

B. Kent, G. Harrison, L. Thomas and A. Alfirenko lost 16-35 to Nick Kemp, Greg Rooke, Murray Williamson and Tom Robertson.

D. Smith, L. Redman, B. Russell and H. Healy lost 17-35 to Darren Mulgrew, Brendan Hammond, Peter Richardson and Mitch Reed (the third rink to be smashed by Cobden).

Division three scraped home by one shot, 79-78, to stay in fourth position behind Simpson on percentage.

Trevor Roberts, Garry Matheson, Kath Spokes and Don Anderson were the only winning rink, but managed to cover the others winning 27-12 over H. Olney, K. Lugg, P. McIver and F. O’Mara.

Janelle Rohan, Richard McVilly, Jim O’Shea and Bert Strampel lost 21-29 against J. Reddie, J. Purdie, J. Bliss and D. Wyles.

Ann Scott, Ken Lynch, David Childs and Janine Hutt fought back but lost 16-17 to G. Dickson, D. Lawler, G. Allen and D. Williams.

David Staggard, Leon Carrigan, Pat Hickey and Brian Howard lost 15-20 to P. Ironmonger, A. Briggs, K. Ridgeway and C. McCombe.

An undermanned division four was dominated by Winchelsea on their home turf, 35-75.

Doreen Coverdale, Ken Farquharson, David Luker and John Raeside fought hard but were defeated 11-17 by G. Orchard, H. David, K. McDonald and L. Warner.

Claire Reynolds, Ken Coverdale, Pam Savage and Loreign Andrews were overwhelmed 8-38 by R. O’Brien, E. O’Brien, S. Kavenagh and P. Lowrey.

Paul Dwyer, Keith Lander and Barry Morgan put up a good effort playing without a second to lose 16-22 to R. Erwin, J. Knuckey, C. Wojtowicz and C. Caldicott.

It is a constant battle to fill all the teams due to illness and other commitments on a weekly basis.

There was no midweek pennant played last week due to the Melbourne Cup public holiday.
