Roller disco returns

RESIDENTS are being invited to lace up a pair of roller-skates and enjoy a night of fun and music to mark the end of Term Three.

Warrnambool Roller Derby will once again host a Roller Disco at the Camperdown Stadium (1 Fuller Street) following the success of last year’s event.

Roller Derby president and head coach Rose Ceratops said the previous year’s event saw strong interest from the community and the league enjoyed hosting the event in Camperdown.

“It’s a really fun experience and we want to share the skating world with anybody who wants to come,” she said.

“Warrnambool Roller Derby are going to bring all of our skates and gear over and then help people to gear up.

“We’ll play some fun music and we run quite a few games such as limbo, friendly games like four corners and do some speed laps to show newer people what it is and how much fun it can be.

“We put some of our skilled coaches on the track to support anybody who is new or learning to support people giving it a go for the first time.”

The disco will be held from 6-8pm on Friday, September 19, with anyone aged five and above invited to give roller-skating a go.

“We just want people to try something new and to have a fun time with something that might not normally be an option to them, given the closest fun skate available is in Warrnambool and it’s not often possible to get across there,” Ms Ceratops said.

“By bringing it to them, we might even be able to open up more avenues and, if we have enough interest, to set up something in Camperdown in the long run.

“That’s big dreams for us.”

Entry for the event is $10 per person, with skates and safety gear provided.
