ROTARY Terang has acknowledged the contributions of some of Terang’s most dedicated figures as part of its annual awards last week.
Paul “Pud” Irving and Margaret McIntosh were each presented with a 2022 Community Service Award for their decades of giving back.
Lorelle Salmom and Rob Cornielson (apology) were awarded the 2022 Excellence in Service Award, and Mark Smith and Jo Suter of Kram Cafe were presented with Customer Service Awards.
Cricketer Tyson Hay served as guest speaker, and he was also presented with a Vocational Excellence and High Achiever Awards.
Club president Wayne Reicha congratulated each of the recipients for their contributions to Terang and the wider community.
“Each year we try to recognise people who have done exceptional work for the community or reached high achievement,” he said.
“Lorelle Salmom has served the community in catering all over Terang and the district, and has catered for our club for 30-plus years, so we thank her for her exceptional service."
“Rob Cornielson does a lot of valuable projects and fundraising for the community, and we thank him for his support of peoplein need."
“Mark and Jo from Kram Cafe have provided wonderful service in recent years since they opened their business, so we congratulate them on their business venture and exceptional service.”
Mr Reicha said the recognition of Mrs McIntosh and Mr Irving had been earned through each dedicating more than 38-years service to the community.
“Pud has not only delivered the mail but he’s also the first to stop and have a friendly chat. He is always a wonderful character around town, and has always been reliable in doing beyond what a postie does,” he said.
“Margaret is the same; she kept the Terang library going during times of trouble, and always made sure the library was more viable and kept going."
“Libraries are always under pressure these days, but Margaret made sure our town’s library was not only going to survive but was well-run.”
Mr Reicha congratulated Mr Hay on his recent sporting success, including serving as Terang Cricket Club’s division one team captain and nabbing a spot on the Australian Deaf Cricket team.
“We recognised Tyson’s achievement, obviously representing Australia, but it looks like he’s got more exciting possibilities in the future so we’re looking forward to seeing how far he goes,” he said.
“Tyson was our speaker, and he spoke of his humble beginnings through to being captain at Terang and now flourishing at the Australian level."
“We congratulate him on such an exciting achievement.”
