Rotary expands awards to celebrate region

ROTARY Club of Terang has opened its annual awards for nominations, and this year will attempt an expansion to Mortlake.

Each year the club hosts awards to recognise those who make a positive contribution to their community.

Rotary Club of Terang president Wayne Reicha said nominations each year showed the incredible diversity of people who exemplify the best characteristics of the region.

“Every year, the club likes to recognise people such as those who are volunteers in the community or those at businesses who go out of their way to be extraordinary in serving the community,” he said.

“We like the community to have a contribution in the recognition, so we’re calling on nominations for anybody who you feel needs to be recognised and rewarded.”

The club hosts awards including the customer service award, young achiever award and community service awards.

The categories have little definition for what qualifies, allowing for nominations to reflect the individual impact that so many people across the region have.

It could be for their helpful and kind customer service, unwavering commitment to give back to the community, or even just a quiet willingness to lend a hand when it is needed.

“The certificates we present can recognise anyone, from young achievers who are thriving academically, or taking part in fundraising, to athletes,” Mr Reicha said.

“There could also be multiple awards for individuals in each category, in previous years, we’ve had up to two or three winners of each award.”

Mr Reicha said this year the club wanted to open its nominations to those living in and around Mortlake.

While Mortlake does not currently have a Rotary club, Mr Reicha said there was no shortage of wonderful people in the community deserving of recognition.

“We want to incorporate Mortlake if anyone knows someone they would like to nominate,” he said.

“Terang, Camperdown and Cobden have Rotary clubs but Mortlake doesn’t have one anymore, so we think it would be nice to recognise people over there too.”

Anyone wanting to nominate can contact Mr Reicha on 0429 921 091.

“Just let me know who you are nominating and provide a little bit of an explanation as to why they deserve to be recognised,” he said.
