Round 11 of indoor bowls

HEYTESBURY Indoor Bias Bowls players contested round 11 of pennant last week.

In division one, Laang-Ecklin (Pam Wines (s), Ken Buck, Max Wines and Allen Cook) lost to Mepunga 2 (Frank Harney (s), Ian Swain, Gayle MacPherson and Karl Keegan) 14-17.

Mepunga 3 (Peter Neal (s), Doug Byron, Les Lenehan and Julie Shiels) lost to Cobden 1 (David Childs (s), Fred Salmon, Brad Wilson and Doreen Coverdale) 26-10.

Timboon Lawn (Jason Mungean (s), Noah Mungean, Jean Clover and Pam Dwyer) def. Glenormiston 1 (Allen Armistead (s), Scott Pierce, Deb Noonan and Rita Pasque) 29-14.

Mepunga 1 (Barb Draffen (s), Helen Harney, Sally Madden and Yvonne Lenehan) def. Camperdown 1 (Ron Simcox (s), Les Pearson, Sophie Pearson and Roelie Maslin) 21-7.

The top four this week are Cobden 1, Timboon Lawn, Mepunga 2 and Mepunga 3.

In division two/three, Scotts Creek 2 (Allan Beasy (s), Louise Blair, Jack Neal and Audrey Armistead) def. Glenormiston 3 (Max Heard (s), Justin Rasmussen, Jim Forssman and Ray Bond) 22-19.

Scotts Creek 1 (Les Neale (s), Trevor Hobbs, Helen Hobbs and Joan Laing) def. Cobden 2 (Joyce Roberts (s), Gerrit Bekker, Bill Johnson and Kate Walsh) 28-19.

Peterborough (Charles Martin (s), Angela Payne, Dave Dendle and Lyn Payne) lost to Mepunga 4 (Gerald Madden (s), Clarrie Matthews, James Byron and Ian Heatly) 9-27.

Glenormiston 2 (Deb Cheslett (s), Ron Heard, Maureen Bond and Danielle Gilchrist) def. Camperdown 2 (Graeme Chamberlain (s), Norma Weller, Gordon Weller and Judy Borthwick) 28-8.

The top four this week are Glenormiston 2, Scotts Creek 2, Scotts Creek 1 and Cobden 2.

The Victorian side was announced in the lead-up to the 2026 Indoor Nationals at Blacktown, NSW.

Congratulations to the following Heytesbury players:

Men’s singles Arthur Finch; mixed pairs Brett Mungean and Lara Mungean, ladies’ triples Pam Dwyer; men’s fours Noah Mungean, ladies’ fours Sophie Pearson. Emergency: Val Blake.

This Friday, the first association event kicks off with the Champion of Champions at Simpson Hall.

Camperdown – Judy Borthwick and Graeme Chamberlain; Cobden – Jill Lynch and David Childs; Glenormiston – Bec Heard and Scott Pierce; Laang-Ecklin – Kathryn Wines and Allen Cook; Scotts Creek – Jan Hutchison and Neville Robb; Timboon Lawn – Pam Dwyer and Noah Mungean.

Players are to be at Simpson Hall before the 7pm start and a draw will be released shortly.

People are also needed to help mark the first round of matches.

The HIBBA tournament at Simpson Hall last Sunday attracted 16 teams of four, with teams stretching from Colac to Port Fairy.

A great day of bowls was had by everyone involved and in the end, there were three teams that stood out.

In third place on 110 points, was the Warrnambool team of Rex Harris (s), Maureen Drennan, Kim Brauer and Val Smith.

There was only two teams that were undefeated for the day and with 130 points, the runners-up were Allen Armistead (s), Scott Pierce, Ken Buck and Bec Heard.

The other undefeated team with 139 points for the day and the winners of the 2026 HIBBA Tournament was the team of Jason Mungean (s), Rita Mungean, Jacoba Mungean and Di Mugavin.

Congratulations to all the placed teams and many thanks to sponsor Tyre Factory Warrnambool for its long-lasting and continued support, as well as everyone that helped make the event what it was – Max Wines for the catering, Kathryn Wines for the organisation, Joyce Roberts, Rita Mungean and Jacoba Mungean for the raffle sales and tickets, all the Heytesbury clubs for their contributions to the raffle and everyone else that helped setup and packdown on the day.

Just a few reminders:

The HIBBA pennant semi-finals will be held at Simpson Hall on Wednesday, July 29; 7.30pm roll-up for a 7.45pm start.

The HIBBA pennant preliminary finals will be held at Simpson Hall on Friday, July 31; 7.30pm roll-up for a 7.45pm start.

Warrnambool will hold its Open Fours Tournament at the Arc Stadium in Warrnambool on Saturday, August 1 and Sunday, August 2.

HIBBA drawn pairs and fours names and cards are to be with the association secretary by Monday, August 3.

HIBBA drawn pairs championships will start on Friday, August 7 and finals will be held on Wednesday, August 12, all at Timboon Lawn.

As the season starts to wind down, the bowls action starts to fire up.

Next week will include round 12 pennant results and possibilities for teams, as well as the VIBBA ladies’ and men’s triples action.
