MEMBERS of the Terang Returned and Services Leagues (RSL) sub-branch have livened up the grounds thanks to a grant from Corangamite Shire.

The sub-branch was approved for a $500 grant under the Quick Response Grants program in May.

The application was allocated to install an irrigation system, wooden sleepers and six ‘Mister Lincoln’ roses along part of the RSL gardens in Shadforth Street.

Terang RSL president Terry Fidge said while the installation of the irrigation pipeline and sleepers had been installed not long after receiving the grant, it was not until recently the roses became available from the supplier.

“Visitors walking along Shadforth Street, between the tram and the walkway into the RSL grounds will see the six roses,” he said.

“Molan and Sons donated a trailer load of stone which was used to cover the ground around the roses, making an attractive surround.

“Once the roses are in bloom, they will match the existing Mister Lincoln roses planted in front of and around the tram.”

Mr Fidge said he and fellow members of the Terang RSL would like to express their appreciation to the Corangamite Shire Council and to Molans for their grant and donation.

“It is through sponsorship of projects and events within the Terang RSL that we are able to go ahead,” he said.

“Events such as the monthly Morning Melodies have been a fantastic opportunity for people to come out, visit the RSL, explore the grounds and enjoy two-and-a-half hours of musical entertainment.”
