RSL welcomes new president
KEVIN Murray was recently elected as Camperdown RSL’s new president, taking over from Alan Fleming.

KEVIN Murray was recently elected as Camperdown RSL’s new president, taking over from Alan Fleming.
Mr Murray was previously a member of the Altona, Crib Point, Hastings and Melton sub-branches before transferring his membership to the Camperdown sub-branch.
He is also the membership officer of the Camperdown sub-branch.
Mr Murray said he was “very pleased”, but also “humbled” by the privilege.
“I’m very much aware of the responsibility that comes with it,” he said.
“What I hope to achieve is the sustainment of our sub-branch.
“The Camperdown RSL sub-branch is now in its 105th year, and the reason I volunteered to be president was because there was a very real risk that no-one else would stick their hand up, if that had happened, then the sub-branch would have had to fold.
“I couldn’t sit back and let that happen, not after more than 100 years of history.”
Mr Murray also praised previous president Alan Fleming for the “unbelievably terrific” job Mr Fleming had done over his six years of presidency.
“Although he was initially elected as president, every time a vacancy came up on the committee and couldn’t be filled by anyone else, Alan filled the job to the point where he was doing five or six different jobs at once,” he said.
“The work he’s done is just unbelievable; the sub-branch would’ve been in very serious trouble a lot sooner had it not been for the work Alan’s put in.”
