PLEASANT weather greeted residents of Camperdown, Derrinallum and Lismore as they came together on Tuesday to mark Anzac Day, with services held.

Camperdown’s service began with a march to the Soldier’s Memorial on Manifold Street, which was led by the Camperdown Light Horse.

The service, which drew a large crowd, included guest speaker Group Captain Paul Murray, son of Camperdown’s RSL president Kevin Murray.

Poems were read by students from Mercy Regional College, who also handed out bottled water to elderly people.

Kevin Murray said the weather was an advantage.

“The number of people here, I might be mistaken, but it looks like more than we had last year, so that’s a good thing,” he said.

“People in the community are thinking about veterans and commemorating them, so that’s a very good thing and we’re very grateful.”

Derrinallum’s service was also well-attended by residents of Derrinallum and Lismore.

Guest speakers included Patrick and Fletcher Greig, who told their family story, and Michael Beeche reflecting on his service.
