Saint Paul’s Anglican Church marks 160 years
RESIDENTS are invited to join the St Paul’s Anglican Church to celebrate a significant milestone for the church.
On Sunday, June 30 the church will be holding a special service to commemorate 160 years since its commencement in 1863.
Church member Sue Cole said some families from when the church originally began are still members today.
“It’s interesting trying to find families who have moved away, who have been here for a long time,” she said.
“There are a few people whose families were here years ago who are coming back, which is good.
“I’ve talked to quite a few who aren’t coming, and they’ve given me all sorts of memorabilia.”
The Service of Thanksgiving will be held at 11am at the church, located at 11 Church Street.
This will be followed by a buffet style lunch in the church hall, as well as a glimpse into the history of the church.
“We'll have a display of historical pieces from over the years,” Ms Cole said.
“We can’t have people turning pages in these old registers and things, so we’ve tried to find pieces of paperwork and things that we've put in plastic pockets so that people can see those.”
Ms Cole said anyone who is interested is welcome to attend.
