Merry Christmas: Planning is well underway as the Mortlake Christmas Carols are set to return on Friday, December 13.

The Mortlake Lions Club hosts the evening each year, offering a free community event designed to ensure residents can gather together for the holidays and celebrate the festive season.

A highlight each year is students from both Mortlake College and St Colman’s Primary School taking to the stage to sing a wide variety of Christmas Carols.

Mortlake Lions Club president Heather Rowe said this year’s event would be similar to previous years, as the club sticks with a formula which has seen the carols become a community favourite.

“Our plan is pretty well the same as last year,” she said.

“We’ve got lots of activities for the children in addition to a jumping castle, merry-go-round, fairy floss, wildlife.

“The schools will have showbags, so that’s going to be good.

“There’ll be a barbecue with roast rolls and plenty of options to eat.”

Despite his busy schedule, the Mortlake Lions Club has also been able to secure a visit from Santa – who will be handing out lolly bags to the kids at around 7.15pm.

The Mortlake Christmas Carols will be held at Market Square (Corner of Officer Street and the Hamilton Highway, opposite Bates IGA) on Friday, December 13.

“The Carols will start at 6pm, and the event will go to around 8.30pm,” Mrs Rowe said.

The event and rides will again be free of charge, with the only paid aspect of the event being food and drinks.

“We encourage people to come along, bring their chairs and mats, and enjoy the festive music,” Mrs Rowe said.

“We’ll also have a big raffle with lots of draws if people want to purchase tickets – we’ll have about eight to 10 draws this year.”
