Schafer in form with the bat

SATURDAY’S round 14 Colac-South West premier division match saw Woorndoo defeated by Bookaar by three wickets.


Batting first on the Port Campbell turf wicket, the Tigers slumped to 3/7 before a partnership of 102 for the fourth wicket between Tyler Schafer and Jarryd Walsh steadied the ship.

Schafer was dismissed for a match high 87 from 68 balls.

Schafer scored 12 fours and three sixes in his innings, with Walsh offering great support with a patient 14 from 53 balls.

Despite Sam Mahncke facing 32 balls and Euan Irving facing 20, the Woorndoo lower order struggled to score freely, with the Tigers finally dismissed in the 40th over for 144.

Although Woorndoo was able to claim regular wickets, Bookaar sped past the Tigers score in 23.2 overs for the loss of seven wickets.

Opening bowler Jarryd Walsh finished with 3/48 from 9.2 overs, with Damien Clifford taking 4/18 from five overs.

This week Woorndoo will play its final game of the season when it hosts Birregurra at the Woorndoo Recreation Reserve.

In division three, Woorndoo had a seven wicket loss to top of the ladder Heytesbury-Princetown.

Batting first in the match played at Woorndoo, the home team posted 8/76 from its 40 overs.

Opener Brendan Mahncke top scored with 21 from 51 balls.

The visitors passed the score in the 23rd over for the loss of three wickets.

This Saturday the division three Tigers play their final game of the season against Pomborneit Maroon at South Purrumbete.
