Season ends for Knights

THE season has ended for Cobden, with the Knights going down to Birregurra by 108 runs in Saturday’s Colac-South West premier cricket preliminary final.

Cobden skipper Johno Benallack won the toss and elected to bowl first at Colac’s Eastern Reserve.

After three early wickets, the Saints recovered to post 8/236 from their 50 overs.

A fourth wicket partnership of 137 between Jack Jarvis and Jack Parker was pivotal in setting up Birregurra’s total.

Parker made 74 from 102 balls, with Jarvis scoring an unbeaten 106 from 112 balls, with seven fours and five sixes.

New ball pair Paul Pekin and Parker Walsh were the best of the Knights bowlers, with Pekin taking 3/38 from nine overs and Walsh 3/35 from 10.

Brandon Goodhall, with 1/21 from five, and Darcy Meade, with 1/55 from nine, were the other wicket takers.

Cobden’s run chase got off to a solid start, with openers Matt Boyle and Campbell Walsh putting on 41 for the first wicket before Boyle was dismissed for 33 from 36 balls.

The Knights started to lose regular wickets, with Campbell Walsh the fourth to fall for an innings high 37 from 53 balls.

Benallack, with 21 from 35 balls and Lachie Boyle with 17 from 13 were the only other players to make double figures as the Knights were rolled in the 32nd over 128.

Cobden will wind up the 2025/26 season on Sunday with its presentation day at the Cobden Community Bank Recreation Reserve.
