Secluded studio to open doors
WEERITE’S Milk Shed Studio will open its doors next weekend for a special exhibition featuring artworks from local and national artists.
The studio is usually closed to the public, but will be open on Saturday, November 22 and Sunday, November 23 to exhibit works from 14 artists.
Harley Manifold, who organised the event and is one of the exhibiting artists, said the exhibition will be a celebration of mostly local artists.
“It’s a great opportunity for us to share some amazing artworks that might not get to be seen in Camperdown – we are showcasing local artists Merrian Dennis and Virginia Farley,” he said.
“Merrian Dennis is a local artist and ex-teacher from Camperdown College – she was the arts teacher there and has since gone on to exhibit widely and regularly in Melbourne.
“Virginia Farley is also local – she lives around the Derrinallum area.
“Her artworks have local themes – she has paintings of cows, sheepdogs and other bright vibrant artworks.
“It will be great to showcase our works alongside artists from Warrnambool and Melbourne.”
Mr Manifold said there would be other artists who have been recognised nationally and internationally among the displayed works.
“Kathryn Ryan and I have both been collected overseas,” he said.
“Sarah Duyshart has exhibited widely in the United Kingdom and received her master’s in fine arts at the Royal College of the Arts.
“It’s open for the public next Saturday and Sunday.
“Everyone who has visited over the years has said the calibre of artists on show is remarkable and they wish it was on for longer.”
Other exhibiting artists include Jan Allan, Des Bunyon, Helen Bunyon, Irene Crusca, Jane Downing, Nick Dridan, Julie Keating, Marion Manifold and Georgia Sambal.
The studio, located at 560 Wiridgil Road, Weerite, will be open from 10am-4pm next Saturday and Sunday.
