Second win for Cats
MORTLAKE’S premier division one cricketers scored a second win of the season on Saturday with a four wicket win over Nestles.

The Cats won the toss and sent the home team into bat at Wenborn Oval.
Nestles got off to a good start, putting on 53 in the first 13 overs before Todd Lamont claimed the first wicket.
“We didn’t start overly well with the ball,” Mortlake co-captain Craig Britten said.
“We got that first wicket through Todd then as a group we spoke about restricting the flow of boundaries which we then put into place.”
Lamont picked up the next two wickets, including former state cricketer Tim Ludeman for no score.
Led by 91 to Geoff Williams, Nestles reached 6/211 from its 45 overs.
Lamont was the pick of the bowlers with 3/25 from nine overs, with Jack Lehmann taking 2/34 from six.
“Todd really changed the game with his wickets, plus he restricted them well.
“Jack was really good with the ball, Kalhan Sineth was always tight earlier in the innings too.”
Sineth conceded just 13 runs from his six over spell with the new ball, ending with 0/33 from nine overs.
The run chase saw Mortlake fall to 3/49 before Adam Atwood and Sineth took charge, putting on 69 for the fourth wicket.
Sineth led the Cats to victory, scoring an unbeaten 76 from 87 balls, including six fours and two sixes.
Atwood earlier had made 53 from 57 balls, with six fours and two sixes.
“Kalhan was just all class with the bat, he controlled the chase.
“It was good to see Adam get his first score for us, he’s a quality player.”
Britten was pleased with the team’s all round effort in the win.
“It was a really pleasing result.
“We fielded really well, there was lots of energy, everyone was up and the vibe was contagious.”
This week Mortlake play on turf for the first time this season, hosting Dennington at the DC Farran Oval.
“It will be good to get on turf, Dennington are one of the top teams so it will be a tough contest.”
Mortlake had a tough day in the championship division, suffering an eight wicket loss to Koroit at Victoria Park.
Junior player Cooper Herry scored 31, opening the batting to top score in the Cats disappointing total of 82.
Koroit cruised to victory in the 19th over, only losing two wickets, both to run outs.
This week Mortlake’s championship team will host Nirranda at Mortlake College.
The division three Cats started their season with a 10-wicket loss to Merrivale at Mortlake College.
Batting first, the Cats made 142, dismissed in the 31st over.
Neil Kelly top scored with 51 from 47 balls with eight fours and a six.
Merrivale passed Mortlake’s score in the 26th over without losing a wicket.
This week the division three Cats play Allansford-Panmure at Allansford.
On Sunday, Mortlake’s women scored a strong win over Russells Creek at the Mack Oval.
Russells Creek batted first and were restricted to 6/83 from their 25 overs.
“It was a great performance, we’ve really worked on our bowling during the pre-season,” Mortlake captain Letitia Howat said.
Wynter Bradbury, with 2/9 from five overs, and Annaliese Abbott, with 1/12 from four, really impressed the skipper.
“It’s been really nice to see Wynter’s improvement, she’s put in a lot of work.
“Annaliese is scary to face, and she’s so consistent.”
Mortlake passed Russells Creek’s score without losing a wicket, ending on an impressive 4/136.
Openers Audrey Ringe (38 retired from 59 balls) and Erin O'Brien (25 retired from 38 balls) led the way.
“I’m really pleased for Erin, she’s really been working on her batting.
“Audrey was stunning with how she batted, she really stood out.”
This Sunday the Mortlake women host Hawkesdale at Mortlake College.
The Mortlake/Cobden under 17s bowled first on day one of their game against West Warrnambool on Tuesday at Deakin University.
West Warrnambool reached 7/148 at stumps.
