Semi finals await
COBDEN are through to the semi finals of the Warrnambool Moyne and District Cricket Association women’s competition after a six run win in the first week of finals action.

Batting first against Warrnambool at Brierly, the Knights were bowled out for 142 in the 24th over, with finals matches extended to 30 overs per team instead of the usual 25.
“It’s crazy to think we won after not facing our 30 overs,” Cobden captain Abbie Hanks said.
“Despite that we were quite happy with our score, we fell away at the end but it was actually our best score of the year so far.”
Opener Anna Dickson led the way with 44 from 60 balls, hitting six boundaries.
“Anna’s batting was unreal, probably her best ever innings.
“She’s improved a lot and taken her game to the next level.”
Dickson featured in partnerships of 35 for the second wicket with Jess Walsh, and 62 for the third wicket with sister Leah Dickson.
Walsh scored 20 from 19 balls, with Leah Dickson making 21 from 19.
Impressive opening spells from Walsh and Leah Dickson saw Warrnambool 2/8.
Cobden was always just ahead and managed to restrict Warrnambool to 8/136 from its 30 overs.
“Jess and Leah were consistent and reliable with the new ball.
“We needed those early wickets and they delivered.”
Walsh finished with 2/23 from five overs, with Leah Dickson taking 2/18 from five.
Hanks and Jacque Dickson were also economical, both taking 1/23 from six overs.
“We needed to bowl dot balls more than take wickets at the end, all our bowlers did their job.
“It was definitely a team effort and pleasing as we hadn’t beaten anyone above us on the ladder before.”
This week's semi-final sees Cobden play Hawkesdale at Hawkesdale for a place in the grand final.
“We’ll have to execute well but we are playing with confidence and will keep trying to keep hitting the highs in our game.”
In the south west women's competition last Wednesday, Cobden Gold reversed the result from earlier in the season with a win over Cobden Blue.
Played before a good crowd at the Cobden Community Bank Recreation Reserve, Blue posted 6/96 batting first.
Anna Dickson top scored with 25 from 29 balls, with Ingrid Bellman taking 2/3 from three overs for Gold.
The Gold team replied with 4/117 to seal the win.
Bellman, opening the batting, hit 31 from 31 balls with four boundaries.
Mikaela Doran made 27 retired from 29 balls, with Akeisha Bishop 24 from 26 balls in the win.
Tonight’s games see Cobden Blue playing Bookaar at Frederick St, while Cobden Gold play Nirranda at Nirranda.
