Semi-finals await Cobden bowlers

COBDEN Bowling Club’s three teams have all stepped up this week and moved into the semi-finals.

In a big week for the Cobden club, division two reversed Apollo Bay’s fortunes, having lost the previous week to them, winning 109-86 at the Colac Lakes complex.

Cobden led early but Apollo Bay came back hard after the tea break, gaining the lead.

Cobden dug in to eventually win and must now face Winchelsea, who only lost by two shots to Lorne.

Darren Mulgrew, Colin Hammond, Murray Williamson and Tom Robertson lost 20-31 to R. Lennie, S. King, P. Telford and A. Crouch.

Noah Mungean, Kathryn Robertson, Mitch Reed and Bazil Hammond won 28-20 from S. Kent, B. Kent, M Hall and K. Maiden.

Ben Robertson, Ash Sinnott, Brendan Hammond and Lachie Taylor had a good win over L. Redman, R. Scott, H. Healy and G. Harrison 31-17.

Nick Kemp, Terry Beasley, Peter Richardson and Brendan Hutt scraped in against D. Hand, B. Finnigan, B. Flack and A. Thompson 24-24.

In division three, Cobden 2 defeated Colac 3 narrowly by two shots 77-75 in very windy conditions on the newly laid and very fast carpet at the Camperdown Bowling Club.

David Staggard, Leon Carrigan, Don Anderson and Geoff Ovens won 24-21 over K. Ezard, G. Burrell, B. Dudley and L. Matthews.

Trevor Roberts, Colin Whiteside, Kath Spokes and Jim O’Shea recovered well to narrowly lose 15-16 to M. Coates, G. Watts, M. McCarthy and E. Riches.

Bert Strampel, Janelle Rohan, Jeff Hester and Brian Howard lost 16-20 to R. Jackson, D. Harty, N. Thompson and B. Finn.

Richard McVilly, Ken Lynch, Colin Spokes and David Luker defeated A. Dudley, T. Ryan, P. McCarthy and T. Jackson 22-18.

Next week they willplay Simpson who finished as ladders leaders with only one loss for the season, however had a surprise loss to City 2 (72-83).

In division four, Cobden 3 handled the windy conditions better than Colac 5 to win 61-46, after being defeated by them in round 13.

Paul Dwyer, Elaine Telford, Doreen Coverdale and Peter Giblett won 25-9 over K. Burrell, P. Pekin, M. Gill and G. Riches.

Claire Reynolds, Evelyn Grayland, John Raeside and Ken Farquharson lost 16-24 to M. Melville, G. Riches, A. Maher and B. Hunt.

Pat Hickey, Loreign Andrew, Des Couch and Janine Hutt defeated K. Weir, J. Robbins, B. Cameron and T. Uwland 20-13.

They will also have to face minor premiers Lorne after Colac 4 defeated them 62-49.

Another interesting weekend of bowls coming up and good luck to all teams.
