Hosted at Manifold Place at 140 Manifold Street, the open day - running from 12noon-6pm - will have a senior paramedic with Ambulance Victoria available for the training and refreshers.

Camperdown and Lismore Community Health manager Lauren Patterson said the day would be an opportunity for people to increase their confidence with using an AED, especially if they have one in their workplace or a community area they attend.

“Camperdown has 17 AEDs available for the public to use in an emergency and, given anyone can use one, we’re encouraging the community to come and learn how,” she said.

“Every day around 21 Victorians suffer a cardiac arrest, with only one in 10 surviving, which is why immediate action is vital and by knowing how to perform CPR and use an AED you can help save lives.”

The Shocktober campaign is an initiative to raise awareness and educate our community about learning CPR and how to use an AED because for every minute CPR is delayed, survival decreases by 10 per cent, but when a patient receives CPR and a shock from an AED before paramedics arrive, their chance of survival more than doubles.

Mrs Patterson said Friday, November 8 would be a drop-in opportunity with no bookings or appointments necessary.

“We will have training mannequins and AEDs for people to practise and become familiar with,” she said.
