Junior shooters Lenny Dobbins, Harrison Glennen and Amelia Pride all finished the event in the top three placings and have been named in the Victorian Junior ‘Shoulder to Shoulder’ team that will represent the state at the nationals in Wagga in April.

A fourth local, Harley Pickford, also performed incredibly well in Echuca and finished in the top six – narrowly missing out on state selection.

To qualify for the ‘Shoulder to Shoulder’ team, competitors needed to shoot in three events – 50 targets single barrel, 50 targets double barrel, and 50 targets point score.

From those three events, the top six juniors were named in the Victorian Postal team.

Lenny, Harrison, Amelia and Harley were all named in the postal side.

Fiona Dobbins and son Lenny have both earned themselves a place on the state team to compete in Wagga next April.

From there, the top six then had to shoot another 25 targets as points score; with the top three earning state selection.

“They were all amazing and to have each of them named in the Victorian Postal team was an incredible achievement,” Fiona Dobbins (mother of Lenny) said.

Fiona also competed in Echuca and after a strong round, was named in the ladies’ state team and will also head to Wagga next year.

“It’s great that both Lenny and I will be competing in Wagga,” she said.

“It’s pretty special to be able to share a sport with your son.”

Also earning a spot on the Victorian team for Wagga was Noorat Gun Club secretary and coach of the South West Junior Academy, Gary Hayden.

Gary put in an impressive performance in Echuca, finishing with a perfect score of 50/50 in the single barrel – winning both the AA grade and the veterans’ classes.

While in Echuca recently, Amelia won the Victoria state ladies’ high gun, Lenny took out the state junior single barrel championship and Harrison won the state junior double barrel championship.

The junior south west team (comprising Amelia, Harrison and Brayden Veale) also won the zone teams match, and South West Zone won the ‘zone teams’ match for the third consecutive year.

“We all had a great time in Echuca, with some pretty impressive results, and are now looking forward to competing at the nationals next year,” Lenny said.
